Privacy Policy

BetterCo (“BetterCo”, “we”, “us”) is a peer-support community that matches people in the same life or income transition into small cohorts, alongside a directory of mentors and service providers. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what choices you have. It applies to www.betterco.club and the BetterCo app.

1. Who we are

BetterCo is a community platform operated from India. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@betterco.club.

2. What data we collect

• Account details — your name, email address, and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
• Profile and cohort information — the phase and stage you select, what you hope to get from your cohort, an optional short bio, and, for grief cohorts only, an optional loss-type you can choose to share or withhold.
• Content you create — messages in your cohort, booking notes, reviews, and reports you submit.
• Sensitive information — some cohorts (for example grief, divorce, and caregiving) involve sensitive personal circumstances. You decide what to share; please share only what you are comfortable with.
• Technical data — a session cookie to keep you logged in, and basic request information (such as IP address) used for security and abuse prevention.

3. How we use your data

• To create and run your account and match you to a cohort.
• To show your profile and contributions to others in your cohort.
• To enable mentor and service bookings you choose to make.
• To keep the community safe — including limiting sign-in abuse and acting on reports.
• To contact you about your account or your cohort.

We do not sell your personal data.

4. Peer content is not professional advice

BetterCo is peer experience-sharing. Content shared by members and mentors is personal experience, not professional, medical, legal, or financial advice. Please see our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.

5. Who can see your information

• Members of your cohort can see your name, profile, and what you post there.
• Mentors and providers you book see the booking note you send them.
• Your email address is used only for sign-in and account communication; your cohort does not see it.
• We use service providers (such as our hosting and database providers) to operate the platform; they process data on our behalf and only as needed to run the service.

6. Cookies and sessions

We use a single essential, HttpOnly session cookie to keep you signed in. It is not used for advertising. Clearing it or logging out ends your session.

7. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. Some content you posted in a cohort may remain visible in context even after account closure, in a de-identified form where practical.

8. Your rights

You can access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, and ask us to stop certain processing. To make a request, email hello@betterco.club. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with applicable Indian data protection law.

9. Data security

Passwords are stored hashed, session tokens are stored hashed, and access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

10. Children

BetterCo is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. We will update the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
